I remember in 1996, the biggest crisis that came to my family was when my husband lost his job. Being the only earning member of my family, the loss of his job was something we could not afford. That was a struggling phase for all of us. I chose not to give up and stood up for my family. I started tailoring, which gave me a little money. In the meantime, my husband was also looking for another private job. I started stitching pillow covers and curtains and designing different clothing items. It gave me a little income, but I knew that wasn't enough for us. Then I got to know about Lighthouse Fashion Design courses. I enrolled in that and learned different techniques and methods in design. I want to thank our trainers, Pakiza Mam and Ankita Mam, because of whom we have excelled in our training. My friends also enrolled in the course, and together we have completed personality development and digital education courses, which increased our confidence.
Through their new project, WeChimni, the GTT Foundation is giving us an opportunity to earn a small income for our lives. These small steps are very important to making women like us empowered. I am glad I am one of those.
