Ashwini
Ganesh Wakchaure resides in Yerwada, Pune with her family of four members. Her
husband works as a professional driver but his income is not so high. The
couple has two school-going daughters. The family lives in a rental house in
the city and leads a middle-class life. Ashwini always wanted to support her
husband in managing the finances of the family but didn’t quite get proper
opportunities.
Following her
interest in stitching, she joined the training classes organized by the GTT
Foundation. She learned to stitch blouses, dresses, bags, and pouches.
Wakchaure has expressed that, “the training was important for me as it has
brought confidence in my work. I have learned new patterns of sewing that are
quite necessary for a professional designer. The training has also helped me
provide good finishing to whatever I stitch. At present, I am producing jute
bags more than any other work because it is more profitable.” Wakchaure now
supports her husband financially and she is looking forward to earning more
profit.
